Turkish Block YouTube

Turkish government blocked the video sharing service YouTube and restricts local media ahead of election day . The act enrages policy makers in Washington and Brussels .

Measures imposed on Thursday came a week after the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan netizens close access to the Twitter microblogging page . The ban was put Turkey in a group of countries censor the Internet as China , Syria , and North Korea .

Blocking of YouTube imposed after an anonymous party who uploaded the leaked recording of a conversation between the Turkish foreign minister , heads of intelligence and military officers about a possible attack on Syria . The officials seem to discuss how to concoct a pretext to justify the attack on its neighbor .

One of the two recordings , each of which has been accessed by more than 140,000 users , allegedly contains sound Hakan Fidan , chief of the National Intelligence Organization . Fidan middle seem offensive missile attacks as a justification for the invasion ..

Shortly after recording the sound became known , the Turkish Foreign Ministry asked the telecom authorities blocked YouTube . The agency calls Google's home page as a threat to national security . The video also modified , the ministry said .

Attorney General Turki said the leak would be considered an " act of spying " . Broadcasting Authority also issued a temporary ban on behalf of the government .

In one of his speeches in the election campaign , Prime Minister Erdogan called the leaking of it as " despicable , unmanly , and deceitful . "

Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that the leak is a " declaration of war . "

Controversy about the leak increases the risk of domestic political pergelutan increasingly bitter , according to analysts . The ban on Twitter and YouTube pages also threaten the sustainability of social media in Turkey in the future .

YouTube and Twitter are at the forefront in the power struggle between Erdogan and the Fethullah Gulen , a priest who lived in the U.S. . In the last two years , a former ally of Erdogan has turned into a serious rival .

Two user accounts , which according to government investigators are owned by Gulen supporters , had leaked the documents and telephone conversations on a daily basis . Leaked Erdogan was trying to associate with cases of corruption that has ensnared dozens of his closest allies .

Parties representing Gulen did not respond to requests for comment and denied responsibility for the leaked footage . Erdogan before it recognizes the validity of some of the tape , but insists the other is modified or quoted out of context .
